A new Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 is expanding the crane fleet of the Ghanaian company BAJ Freight and Logistics Ltd. The 5-axle crane ensures greater flexibility and efficiency for small and medium-sized lifting operations.

BAJ Freight and Logistics Ltd’s mobile crane fleet has so far comprised a 300-tonne, a 220-tonne and a 150-tonne Liebherr crane. “With our new LTM 1100-5.3, we are now filling a gap below the existing load capacity classes. The crane will handle smaller lifting tasks in future, thereby taking the strain off the larger units in the fleet,” says Chief Executive Officer Joseph Biney. “The utilisation rate of our three larger cranes is very high – any downtime represents a significant strain for us. The high product quality and reliable local service made the decision to invest in a fourth Liebherr crane an easy one.”

As the “Master of all Roads”, the LTM 1100-5.3 combines mobility, economy and performance at a new level: it features a powerful, 62-metre-long telescopic boom and carries up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight with a 12-tonne axle load on public roads. The crane is economically mobile worldwide and can, for example, travel with an axle load of just 9 tonnes.

Safety that impresses

Safety is the top priority at BAJ Freight and Logistics Ltd on all construction sites. “The LTM 1100-5.3 impressed us with its high safety standards. Furthermore, the 5-axle crane is equipped with the new LICCON3 crane control system and will be the first mobile crane of this generation in Ghana,” says Biney. The new crane’s main areas of application will be in port logistics and in projects for the mining and oil & gas industries. Combined with the transport and logistics services provided by BAJ Freight and Logistics, this creates a comprehensive range of services from delivery to on-site installation.

“In addition to product quality, the decisive factors for this renewed investment in a Liebherr crane were, above all, the high availability and local service provided by Liebherr in Ghana, which is essential for smooth operation,” reports Biney.
