Custom Truck & Equipment displays crawler carrier for cranes

Custom Truck & Equipment, Kansas City, Mo., showed its first entry into the commercial crawler carrier market, the CTrac8000, at ICUEE. The 80,000-lb. GVWR track vehicle allows the crane or aerial lift to be mounted on the carrier like any other wheeled chassis; it can be bolted and unbolted without the crane or lift having to be cut apart and put back together.

“A huge thing for us is integration of products,” says Fred Ross, president of CTE. When merging two products like the chassis and a crane, upholding the integrity of the lifting equipment is of major importance. According to CTE, a crane or lift mounted on the CTrac will see no change in lift capacities or range diagrams. No modifications are made to the outriggers or components.

The CTrac uses a total of six solid-rubber, dual bogie wheels the three-piece steel rims, which the company says results in more even ground contact pressure and improved lateral stability on side slopes. Other features of the suspension and tracks include heavy-duty walking beams with filament wound, self-lubricating bearings and the 36-in. wide rubber belt with steel grousers.

The carrier is able to handle slopes of 45° with 2.69 psi unloaded ground pressure. It measures 342-in. long, 120-in. wide, 118-in high, and it has a ground clearance of 18 in.

The single person enclosed cab is rated for ROPS/FOBS, and heater and air conditioning are standard equipment. Lights include four forward driving lights, two rear working lights, a beacon light, and a dome light. Backup and side cameras are also standard. The standard digital operator display shows engine oil pressure, water temperature, RPM, and volt meter; fuel level; hydrostatic oil temperature; a digital inclinometer; and system setup and troubleshoot screens. Optional equipment includes a front or rear winch, a cold weather package, and other customizations required by the customer.

A Tier 4-compliant Cummins Engine is standard on the CTrac8000; other engines are available for export.
