Enerpac Jack-Up System Wins Safety Initiative Award
The JS Series Jack-Up system developed by Enerpac Heavy Lifting Technology has received the ‘Most Significant Safety Initiative’ Award at ‘The Heavies’ 2017. In selecting the JS-Series, the judges highlighted the way in which the Jack-Up eliminates many potentially unsafe practices by reducing operator interaction and the necessity for working at height.
Organised by the publishers of UK national and international title, ‘Heavy Torque’, The Heavies recognises innovation, investment and creativity in the delivery of major projects within the abnormal lift and transport industry. The Enerpac JS-Series is a multi-point hydraulic lifting system based on an incremental stage-lifting principle. The lifting frame of each jack-up unit contains four hydraulic cylinders, one in each corner, which synchronously lift and stack steel barrels, forming lifting towers.
In announcing the Safety Initiative award, BBC Radio traffic reporter, Sally Boazman, better known to many of her listeners as “Sally Traffic”, said, “Enerpac has come up with a practical, cost-effective, efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to a perennial issue for heavy load lifting. It eliminates many potentially unsafe practices by reducing operator interaction and the necessity for working at height.”
Safe Heavy Lifting
In the Judges words: “We liked the Enerpac JS Series Jack-Up system entry for several reasons – starting with the replacement of precious hardwood cribbing with steel boxes that offer greater resistance to side loads and thus more stability and safety. It also addresses working at height issues. The automated loading system of the boxes is also less labour intensive (and less manual handling) and offers greater control. Being able to load it in a standard ISO container is attractive, as is its ‘modular’ approach that allows an operator to tailor the amount of jacking to the height and weight requirements. The automated lifting procedure also looks fail-safe.”
“We are delighted to receive the ‘Most Significant Safety Initiative’ Award,” said Jeroen Naalden, global director, Enerpac Heavy Lifting Technology. “The Jack-Up system’s small footprint combined with exceptional side load resistance and high lifting capacity provide the flexibility needed for safely executing lifts with restricted access or overhead obstructions.”
