Five Liebherr 542 HC-L 18/36 tower cranes owned by Morrow Equipment were instrumental in helping build Las Vegas’ newest landmark, Resorts World Las Vegas.

Morrow Equipment Co. chose the Liebherr tower cranes for their robust capacities and fast line speeds. All five reached a hook height of 686’.

Located on the north end of the world famous Las Vegas Strip, Resorts World Las Vegas is a $4.3-billion dollar resort and casino slated to open in 2021. It’s Vegas’ most expensive project of its type.

Located on the former site of the Stardust Resort and Casino, the new hotel and casino will feature two towers, about 3,500 rooms and suites, and 350,000 sq. ft. of meeting and banquet space.

The 542HC-L cranes are being used for all construction activities, from setting steel to placing concrete and forms.

Luffing jib cranes like the 542 HC-L 18/36 are designed for work on tall buildings or in particularly small spaces. HC-L cranes allow level luffing. When moving the load, the controller automatically adjusts the hoist gear so the load hook moves horizontally.

Morrow’s team helped its customer, W. A. Richardson Builders LLC, of Las Vegas, select the cranes based on reliability, capacity, and line speeds. Morrow’s exceptional service and spare parts inventory made the choice easy for the customer.

“Morrow continues to be the leader in the industry, maintaining a young fleet of Liebherr tower cranes,” said Morrow’s vice president of operations Peter Juhren. “Our strong relationship with Liebherr coupled with our expertise in the tower crane industry ensures a seamless experience for our customers. We continue to work out complex projects for our customers, working several high-profile jobs currently, including the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant nuclear reactor project in Georgia, and the new Microsoft campus in Washington state.”

Established by brothers John and Richard Morrow in Salem, Oregon, in 1968, Morrow started with just a few tower cranes. It expanded substantially when it became the exclusive distributor of Liebherr tower cranes in North America in 1979.

Today, Morrow is one of the largest tower crane companies in the world. It has experience with all types of construction projects – commercial buildings and hotels, residential properties, and stadia. Morrow employs 330 people and operates a fleet of 571 cranes.
