Huge joy at small crane: The winner of the L1 prize draw visits Bauma
It has never happened before: Gerald Hoppmann is the first building contractor in the world to win a crane. On the third day of Bauma, Stéfanie Wohlfarth symbolically awarded him the prize − Liebherr L1 fast-erecting crane − at the Liebherr stand.
Things always seem to happen when you least expect them – the sheer joy was written all over Gerald Hoppmann’s face as Stéfanie Wohlfarth, granddaughter of the founder of the company, Hans Liebherr, and member of the Administrative Board of Liebherr-International AG, as well as Dominique Tasch, Managing Directors of Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH, congratulated him on his win.
“I am absolutely delighted at winning the L1”, beamed Hoppmann. “It happened at just the right time, because I had wanted to purchase a new Liebherr crane anyway.” He is from the second generation of the family to manage Hoppmann Bau GmbH & Co. KG, which has just under 30 employees. His father, who founded the company in 1969, was a Liebherr customer at MARM, the dealer in the northern German city of Delmenhorst. As well as his own two 22 HM Liebherr cranes, Gerald Hoppmann often uses other rental machines. “The L1 seems to be ideal for our construction sites.
If it works well in practice, I’ll possibly buy another one”, he stated. The construction company in Metjendorf-Wiefelstede in northern Germany specialises in shopping centres and administration buildings.
The L1-24 is easy to transport and assemble. It moves loads of up to 2.5 tonnes, requires little space, and also impresses with its improved ergonomics. With the new model Liebherr goes back to its roots: it is a smaller, fast-erecting tower crane − like the TK 10 of those days the original product of the Group and first mobile tower crane in the world.
Gerald Hoppmann was the lucky winner of the roughly 1,400 participants. Liebherr organised the prize draw as part of the L1 Crane Day. At the event on March 11, 2016 Liebherr, together with its crane dealers, unveiled the new series to customers for the first time: at over 45 locations in Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Switzerland, an L1-24 was assembled and presentes. All German companies active in the construction industry had the chance to win.
