LGH Steps in as Straightpoint Exits the Rental Market

Lifting Gear Hire (LGH) has seized an opportunity to consume the previous rental fleet of fellow UK company Straightpoint (SP), as the load cell manufacturer leaves the hire market.

LGH, a provider of lifting, rigging, and safety equipment has taken delivery of SP’s entire range, previously made available for short-term usage, which includes 100t+ capacity versions of its most popular product, the Radiolink plus load cell, and compression load cells up to 300t capacity. The transfer immediately gives existing and prospective LGH customers access to a greater breadth of state-of-the-art force measurement technology.

Colin Naylor, managing director at LGH, said: “The SP range of load cells is world-renowned for its pioneering technology, durability, and general standout quality. SP’s decision to exit the rental business presented us with a huge opportunity to exploit new markets and target a wider demographic of customer. Furthermore, in entrusting LGH with the legacy of its rental fleet, SP has endorsed that we are uniquely equipped to oversee supply of the range as a specialist provider of lifting and other equipment.”

The largest lifting, rigging, and material handling hardware company in the world, The Crosby Group, recently acquired SP but it was already looking to implement an exit strategy from the rental market.

David Ayling, former owner of SP and now global business development director for load monitoring solutions, said LGH represents the perfect partner in collaborating on a seamless transition in equipment ownership, whilst retaining the same high levels of customer service and expertise with which the products are associated.

He added: “We are always happy to partner with LGH around the world. Only recently we worked closely with the U.S. operation as it initiated a major overhaul of its load cell fleet and placed a landmark order for our technologies. There are many synergies in our joint commitment to safety and we’re sure LGH will uphold the principles of knowing the load, which remains of paramount importance in the rental marketplace, like all others.”

Naylor reiterated that the SP range represents the pinnacle of force measurement engineering. The Radiolink plus, for example, is capable of both weighing and dynamic load monitoring and is suited to a myriad of applications. The Handheld plus display unit, meanwhile, offers a range of up to 700m (2,300ft.), and the Multiple Wireless Load Cell Controller (SW-MWLC) software package displays and logs data from up to 100 wireless load cells simultaneously.
