Installing an air-conditioning system on the roof of a hotel in the famous Old Town of Carcassonne, France, called for the use of a mobile crane. Liebherr customer Hugon found that only a compact Liebherr LTC 1045-3.1 was able to pass under the low medieval gateways leading to Old Town. The 45-tonne compact crane is only three metres high when on the move, and it has a tight turning radii.
To handle this tricky job, an extra person was required to work alongside the taxi crane. The load only weighed two tonnes, but the area for setting up the crane was so restricted that the support base had to be drastically reduced. This meant that the assembly of the air-conditioning unit was the easiest part of this difficult and demanding project.
