Liebherr LR 1300 crawler cranes on the job at the new 49ers stadium

Four Liebherr LR 1300 crawler cranes are currently erecting the steel structure of the new Santa Clara Stadium in California, future home ground of the San Francisco 49ers. The $1.2 billion stadium with a total capacity of 68,500 spectators is set for completion in time for opening day of the 2014 NFL football season.

The crawler cranes, provided by the Californian-based Bigge Crane and Rigging Co., are fitted with a main boom of 154 ft. and a luffing jib of 164 ft. Altogether, they are erecting no less than 14,000 pieces of steel with a total weight of more than 35,000 tons.

In the first construction phase more than 3,000 piles were drilled, 30 miles of utilities, cables and pipes were laid underground and approximately 10,000 cubic yards of concrete were poured by 400 workers. By mid September 2012, about 15 percent of the stadium has been finished.
