Liebherr MK 88 mobile construction crane on the job at “Badewelt Sinsheim”

An Liebherr MK 88 MK 88 mobile construction crane operated by Hubert Wiemann GmbH & Co. Autokrane KG, Dortmund was used recently for the refurbishment work on the swimming pool complex at “Badewelt Sinsheim”. The space available for replacing the glass panels on the roof at the pool complex meant that the job not only demanded the typical properties of the crane but also special skills from the crane driver.

Two of the three crane sites were easily accessible. The third location, however, was only accessible through a ford measuring just three metres which separated the two large outdoor pools. Both the access route and the place where the crane was needed were under 60 cm of water. This meant that the crane driver only had a few centimetres on both sides to bring the 2.75 m wide MK 88 safely to its destination. In addition the access route was difficult to see as a result of the depth of the water. The hydraulic shock absorbers were extended a long way to achieve the greater ground clearance that was required as a result of the high water level.

The use of a mobile construction crane was ideal for this job since it was able to be positioned close to the building and its large radius is able to extend a long way into the roof area. The glass panels had been removed in groups by a forklift truck and stored temporarily near the building. The various glass panels were then positioned quickly and safely by the installation personnel using “Micromove” fine positioning mode.
