Lufthansa acquires two Genie Z-34/22 N articulating boom lifts for maintenance at Budapest International Airport
Leading international airline company Deutsche Lufthansa AG recently purchased two Genie® Z™-34/22 N electric articulating boom lifts, to support the maintenance of its aircraft at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. Equipped with specially adapted Aircraft Protection Packages, both machines were provided by Huntraco Zrt., an authorized Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) distributor in Hungary.
Since acquiring its two Genie Z-34/22 N articulating boom lifts, Lufthansa has placed an order for one Genie GS™-3246 scissor lift and has plans to order three additional lifts in the near future.
Discerning decisions to reach high standards
Aircraft maintenance involves performing swift checks directly on the tarmac, and a wide range of heavier, longer-term duties in the hangar. All of these activities demand extremely high technical and safety standards on a strict time schedule. For Lufthansa, the Genie Z-34/22 N proved to combine the high level of performance that the company was looking for.
“We first started renting Genie lifting equipment with Huntraco about nine years ago. To make a fair comparison, we also rented similar machines by other brands, too. For us, the Genie Z-34/22 N articulating boom lift proved to be both fast, highly maneuverable and safe, which is precisely what we need. The expert sales and service support provided by Huntraco was also an important factor in our purchase decision,” said Krisztián Radó, Tools, GSE & Calibration Specialist and Lift Equipment Administrator for Lufthansa in Budapest.
Highly maneuverable and productive
Featuring a narrow system width of just 58 inches (1.47 m), the Genie Z-34/22 N boom lift notably combines the ability to maneuver rapidly in confined areas. Well-suited to aircraft maintenance, an articulating boom and rotating jib provide fast, easy access in conjunction with a working height of up to 40 ft 6 in (12.52 m), a maximum horizontal reach of 22 ft 3 in (6.78 m) with an up-and-over clearance of 15 ft 2 in (4.62 m).
“The airport terminal is always busy with vehicles and machines. Inside the maintenance hangar we can be working on up to four or five aircraft at a time. Space is limited, so we need all the maneuverability we can get,” says Krisztián. “For us, the Z-34/22 N is a great solution that provides the fast access we need without having to erect scaffolding. Our machines are equipped with the Genie Aircraft Protection Package which, in addition to significantly reducing the possibility of damaging the aircraft, also provides our operators the peace of mind they need to work smoothly and productively.”
Quiet, clean, autonomous performance
Operated by battery, the electric Z-34/22 N articulating boom lift combines the benefits of increased freedom of movement with the ability to work for longer before recharging than many other similar machines. “Besides the convenience of working without the constraints of power lines, the Z-34/22 N is also totally emission-free and noise levels are considerably reduced,” adds Jenő Gombás, sales director Huntraco. “These are aspects that our customer’s operators appreciate highly, particularly for inside jobs.”
About the Genie® Z™-34/22 N articulating boom lift
Combining a working height of 40 ft 6 in (12.52 m), a horizontal reach of 22 ft 3 in (6.78 m) with an up-an-over clearance of 15 ft 2 in (4.62 m), the Z-34/22 N features a narrow system width of just 58 inches (1.47 m) with zero tail swing, which is ideal for work in confined areas. Equipped with a 4 ft (1.22 m) boom to provide a range of motion of 139 degrees for above and below horizontal positioning, the Z-34/22 N articulating boom lift offers a maximum drive performance of 35% grade ability at travels speeds up to 4.0 mph (6.0 km/h). Its self-leveling platform, that can be raised and lowered without retracting or extending the boom, provides the ability to rotate 180 degrees for precise positioning and easy operation. The AC drive system eliminates the need for forward/reverse contactors or speed sensors to simplify operation and improve reliability. For industrial applications where the machine must be driven longer distances, the Genie® bi-energy system combines the benefits of a 48V DC machine with the versatility of a diesel-powered generator.
