Mammoet USA announces the successful conclusion of a heavy lifting and transport project at the Reficar Refinery, the largest refinery in Colombia. Mammoet was contracted to assist in the modernization and expansion of the refinery in 2011.

The scope of lifting and transport services for this project was large and diverse with over 1,000 lifts and moves with 150 of the lifts weighing 100 tons or more. Strict coordination and planning was crucial to meet the construction schedule and in order to maximize construction efficiency Mammoet served as a key contractor handling all overland transport, inland shipping and on-site lifting.

At the peak of the project, Mammoet provided over 121 cranes ranging in capacity from 18 to 1,350 tons. Other equipment included 154 axle lines of Self Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs), 48 lines of conventional modular trailers and a 900-ton gantry lift system.

To ensure optimal safety, a special safety-training program was set up for the local staff. A dedicated maintenance shop was constructed to service the vast amount of equipment on-site.

Over 150 Mammoet professionals worked for three years adhering to the strictest safety standards to get the refinery up and running as soon as possible. Primarily due to its large fleet of equipment and global pool of highly skilled professionals, Mammoet was able to supply all the materials and crew to complete the job and work many fronts simultaneously to expedite the massive operation.

Commissioning is currently ongoing and start-up is scheduled for 2015.
