The company plans to invest GBP7.2 million (USD9.9 million) into a state-of-the-art base on the Teesside Estate, near Stockton.

The six acre (2.43 ha) site will house 180 of its UK employees, including the 36 that work in Leeds and 140 employees who work in Billingham.

Matthew Gent, Mammoet UK’s managing director, said: “This is a significant, long-term, investment in our business and people that emphasises just how important the UK market and customer base is to the global Mammoet company.

“Significant opportunities exist in the UK in relation to major petrochemical, oil and gas, power, nuclear and infrastructure projects, and we have the expertise to match that demand.

“Mammoet UK has continued to expand in the UK market following our strategy of helping clients improve construction efficiency and optimise the uptime of their plants and installations with services and solutions for lifting, transportation, installing and decommissioning large and heavy structures.

Quoted in the local media, Gent says he foresees further expansion of the UK business of up to 50 percent.

The workshop has two overhead cranes; two service pits, including a rolling road and brake testing facility capable of accommodating the largest mobile cranes in the market place; as well as covered storage within the workshop to accommodate Mammoet’s auxiliary equipment including hydraulic jacks, hydraulic skid systems, lifting equipment, strand jacks, and so on.

Construction of the facility is almost complete and Mammoet plans to open the facility later this month.
