SimsHD, Sims Crane & Equipment’s spin-off rigging and heavy-duty moving company, has successfully completed more than 700 jobs throughout the state since launching in September 2014, leading to new equipment purchases and additional hiring.
SimsHD offers heavy-duty moving solutions business for industrial applications, providing horizontal building access and the ability to enter confined or restricted spaces to move large, heavy machinery. Over the past 16 months, SimsHD has taken on projects moving large equipment in the medical diagnostic, manufacturing, HVAC and power generation sectors.
According to Kurt Kuffermann, SimsHD President and General Manager, “Power generation represents SimsHD’s greatest prospect for growth. With the continued population growth in Florida, power companies are busy expanding and updating their equipment throughout the state, which creates more opportunity for SimsHD to grow as well.”
In a recent power company project, SimsHD moved a 132,000-pound transformer for Kissimmee Utility Authority in Kissimmee, Fla. using a six-line Goldhofer transport and a 250-ton crane.
To keep up with demand for its rigging services, SimsHD recently acquired a second Goldhofer transport and a 600-ton jack and slide system, capable of performing lifting jobs that cranes cannot access. SimsHD also boasts two Versa Lift forklifts that offer high capacity lifting of 60,000 and 100,000 pounds each, and four air bearing dollies that can lift a load of up to 40,000 pounds capacity each.
SimsHD also has augmented its leadership team. Senior staff at SimsHD now includes Tom Kendrick, lead rigging supervisor, who has more than 25 years of experience as a certified rigger, and Mike Lapierre, lead sales and job analyst, who joined SimsHD from Mammoet, the international rigging giant. Kuffermann says that SimsHD will be hiring additional riggers as the company’s project load increases.
“We are just beginning to tap the rigging market in Florida,” said Kuffermann.
“We are meeting those rigging needs with state-of-the-industry equipment and skilled and experienced staff.”
