Spinelli S.r.l. puts a Terex Gottwald G HMK 8610 in the Port of Genoa into operation
Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has achieved yet another success in Italy with mobile harbour cranes of its large-crane family. In December 2016, Spinelli S.r.l. (Spinelli) plans to put a diesel-electric Terex® Gottwald Model 8 machine in the G HMK 8610 two-rope variant into operation in its terminal in the Port of Genoa. The machine will be the largest crane from TPS in Italy and will help Spinelli, above all, to meet increasing demands for loading and unloading vessels with containers stacked high on deck. The new crane will also handle general cargo. Thanks to the crane’s high lifting capacity, Spinelli will also be able to offer handling of heavy project cargo.
The new fit-for-the-future crane impresses with its performance and drive system
The new crane features 150 t maximum lifting capacity, up to 56 m outreach and maximum lifting speeds of 100 m/min. The machine has a tower extension to serve the latest generations of large vessels. With a boom pivot point height of 29.2 m and a crane operator eye level of 32.4 m, the geometry of the G HMK 8610 is perfectly matched to the requirements of these vessels. The customer order also includes two twin-lift spreaders with lifting capacity of 60 t each. This will allow Spinelli to handle two 20’ containers weighing 30 t each at the same time.
As is usual for TPS, the crane will be equipped with an efficient diesel generator set for on-board power generation. To benefit from external power resources when they become available in future, the rotary lead-through between the crane chassis and superstructure is already being prepared for operation on the terminal‘s on-shore power supply. Using external power sources increases the energy efficiency of the crane, prevents exhaust emissions in the terminal and reduces noise emissions. If the external power is generated by renewable energy sources, the crane can be seen as part of a complete green energy chain.
Spinelli rises to the challenge of serving large vessels
With the new machine, the fleet size of Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes at Spinelli will have increased to four. Roberto Spinelli, Managing Director of the company: “We are faced with the challenge of serving a constantly growing fleet of large vessels. The new crane will help us to respond to this challenge in the long term. As our mobile harbour cranes from TPS have always impressed us with their high level of performance and reliability, it was logical for us to opt again for a Terex Gottwald crane.”
Large-family cranes from TPS successful throughout Italy
Gino Gherri, Regional Director Sales & Services, TPS: “We started to deliver Terex Gottwald cranes to Spinelli in 2013 when we supplied a Model 6 crane to Genoa, which was followed by two Model 7 cranes and now the Model 8 in the G HMK 8610 variant. Since 2014, we have put eight Model 7 cranes into operation throughout the country. The popularity of our large-crane family, which are part of our Generation 5 product portfolio, is a sign that TPS offers the right answer for their customers’ needs. The Model 8 for Spinelli is the next chapter of this success story.”
