Terex CC 6800 in action
For the hoisting and transport branch of Shaanxi Petroleum Chemical Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. (Shaanxi Hoisting ), the maiden lift of its new Terex CC 6800 crawler crane at the Jingbian Energy and Chemical Engineering Industrial Park in Yulin was to hoist and accurately position a 247-tonne (272-ton) gasification furnace at a methanol plant. This is part of the Jingbian Energy project, which is expected to be finished in July 2013.
As Liu Junqi, deputy manager of Shaanxi Hoisting explained: “On this occasion, we knew that the CC 6800 was more than able to handle this lift. This job had very narrow margin limits, and what we needed was precision and accuracy on the lifts. Using a CC 6800 made the job seem easy.”
At 10:50 a.m. the lift began. The crane was configured with a 72m (236-ft.) main boom at 24m (79-ft.) radius, a superlift mast rigged at 25m (82-ft) radius, plus 80 tonnes (88 tons) of central ballast and 160 tonnes of superlift counterweight.
To complete its mission, the CC 6800 had to hoist the methanol furnace—the core component of coal-fueled gas production plants—and maintain the load at exactly the right position. Then it had to lower the load and align the bolts on its outer casing to meet with the bolt holes on the foundations inside the methanol plant.
Working with the furnace laid out in a horizontal position, the CC 6800 took the weight of the load and gradually proceeded to raise it clear off the ground. A 250-tonne (276-ton) capacity auxilliary crane roped-up the tail end of the furnace. Once the furnace was fully vertical, the Shaanxi Hoisting team’s technicians unhooked the support crane, leaving the load suspended under the hook of the crawler crane.
Wang Haiqian, lifting crew commander for Shaanxi Hoisting said: “From this point on, our operator needed to work extremely accurately to lower and adjust the load gradually into the required position. The CC 6800’s hydraulic precision and IC-1 touch screen control system proved to be a great advantage.”
The CC 6800 proceeded to lift the load just above the plant’s structure to a height of 40m (44-ft.), before smoothly slewing its boom towards the inside of the building. “We can’t praise enough the design, reliability and stability of Terex crawler cranes,” Haiqian said. “With more than an estimated total of 45,000 tonnes (49,604 tons) of heavy-lifting work to accomplish before the Jingbian Energy project is completed, there is a lot of work for the CC 6800 left to do.”
Thirty minutes from the start of its inaugural lifting task, the job was completed.
