The new Terex® Superlift 3800 crawler crane has already demonstrated its technical qualities in a multitude of projects and getting significant praise within the industry in a short time.

Now, the Superlift 3800 crane has received further recognition, but from an entirely different party this time: On November 26th, in Koblenz, Germany, a jury of experts awarded the Superlift 3800 crawler crane the 2013 Rheinland-Pfalz Design Award in the “Products” Category.

“At Terex Cranes, we believe in investing in product design, both operational and aesthetics. The result: we created a crane that operators are delighted with, delivers the performance to get a job done quickly and efficiently, and that carries a recognizable look amongst all of our cranes. We have come a long way in building one brand within Terex Cranes and product design contributed significantly to this. We can see it today, as all new products carry the Terex Cranes family look. We are proud that this effort was awarded the 2013 Rheinland-Pfalz Design Award,” comments Francois Truffier, Vice President Marketing, Terex Cranes.

The new Terex Superlift 3800 crane raises the bar in terms of performance and comfort where function meets form. A good example is the operator cab’s layout, which was developed with a particular focus on ergonomics with the help of extensive customer feedback. “We worked with experts in design and ergonomics, got extensive customer input, and collaborated with Porsche Engineering to create patented cabs for all of our cranes. In fact, the shape of the cab is one of the attributes that make our cranes immediately recognizable, especially in our Superlift 3800 crawler crane,” says Rüdiger Zollondz, Director Product Marketing, Terex Cranes. In addition to the visual cues from the cab, other attributes include the shape of the counterweights. All crawler cranes from our Zweibrucken location and the AC 1000 all terrain crane share the same counterweight, meaning that they can be swapped when necessary. During design and engineering, Terex Cranes puts a special focus on efficiency and resource utilization. This is why our products have a modular design, like with counterweights, they are versatile and compatible with each other – an aspect that the jury also praised: “The Superlift 3800 combines excellent lifting performance with well thought-out details that are part of its overall design. The designers involved cooperated closely – even throughout the conception stage – and were thus able to develop innovative functions for the end-users. The jury based its decision on the consistent product ‘language’, the quality of the engineering detail as part of the complete system, and on the compelling ergonomic design of the working environment.”
